Stroebel Streak Keeps Him at the Top of the ASA Member Track National Standings
A driver that is so far undefeated this year, is something you rarely hear in auto racing. Shelby Stroebel can say that as he has won the first seven feature events at Meridian Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Meridian, ID, so far this season. The streak keeps him at the top of the ASA Member Track National Championship standings.
Stroebel will be back in action this Saturday night at the quarter-mile asphalt oval for twin feature events in the ASA Modified division. He currently has an average of 2.0283.
Mike Slone picked up his third feature win this past Saturday night at Lebanon I-44 Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Lebanon, MO. He went wire-to-wire in the ASA Late Model main event, holding off Matt Wallace for the win. He is second overall in the national standings with an average of 1.8658.
Michael Hale is third overall in the national standings with an average of 1.7488. The 2011 Maverik Modified Champion at Rocky Mountain Raceways, an ASA Member Track in West Valley City, UT, is already off to a great start this season as he won their most recent feature event.
Two short track veterans are tied at the top of the Late Model standings at Ace Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Altamahaw, NC. Defending ASA Member Track National Champion Barry Beggarly is tied with Speedy Faucette. Beggarly won his first feature last Friday night, while Faucette visited victory lane earlier this year. Faucette has an average of 1.6334 while Beggarly is not far behind with an average of 1.6074.
Wayne Webb sits at the top of the standings in the Late Model Sportsman division at Newport Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Newport, TN. He currently has an average of 1.2793.
Mark Mackesy continues to lead the standings at State Park Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Wausau, WI. He continues to be the one to beat at the Wimmer owned facility. He has an average of 1.1240.
Lance Gatlin continues to dominate the Limited Late Model division at Lonesome Pine Raceway, an ASA Member Track in Coeburn, VA. He has an average of 0.8359.
“We have some drivers that are off to a fast start this season,” Dennis Huth, ASA President said. “The one thing we all have to remember is that a racing season is not a sprint, but an endurance race. It will be interesting to watch and see if Shelby Stroebel and others can maintain their strong starts to the 2012 season. This is still early but will be fun to watch as we continue through the summer.”
Throughout the season, drivers competing in the premiere divisions at eligible ASA Member Tracks are in the running for the 2012 ASA Member Track National Championship. In order to have a chance for the national title, a driver must first win their 2012 track championship.
Speednetdirect.com, for the fifth year in a row, will tabulate the National Championship standings. Using a proprietary formula that creates an average based on wins, finishing positions, number of cars passed, car counts and events. The driver who wins their track championship and has the highest average over the other ASA Member Track champions will win the 2012 ASA Member Track National Championship.
