ASA Sanctioned Newport Motor Speedway Ready to Roar Back to Life This Saturday Night

The Smoky Mountains are known for beauty and peaceful surroundings.  But that will change this Saturday night, as Newport Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Newport, TN, will open their 2012 season with a twin 50-lap feature event for the Late Model Sportsman division.

“We are ready to roar back to life after the winter break this weekend and we are excited to do it under the ASA banner for the second year,” Ron Crane, Newport Motor Speedway General Manager said. “Last year, our competitors in the Late Model Sportsman division had a fast and impressive impact with the ASA Member Track National Championship.  Three of our drivers finished in the top ten in the ASA East Region standings and Zack Franks finished second place overall in the national standings.  We can’t wait for the 2012 season to start.”

Newport Motor Speedway is affectionately known as “Little Bristol.”  The 4/10-mile high-banked asphalt oval provides thrilling and competitive racing every Saturday night.  The Late Model Sportsman cars are their marquee division.  Fans will also enjoy watching the Super Late Models, Street Stocks, Front Wheel Drive, Modified 4’s, Legends, and Mini Cups featuring drivers from Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina.

Throughout the season, along with their regular divisions, Newport Motor Speedway will also welcome the ASA ISCARS Series, Southeast Limited Late Models, the Southeast Super Truck Series, and UARA Late Models.

“Newport Motor Speedway fit perfectly into our ASA Member Track program last season and they had a huge impact with our National Championship.  We are excited they are back for the 2012 season with ASA Racing,” Dennis Huth, ASA Racing President said.  “Ed Surrett, Ron Crane and their entire staff provide a great racing program every Saturday night.  The track itself provides fast, exciting side-by-side racing action that leaves fans on the edge of their seats.  Their talented groups of drivers are quickly becoming household names.  We wish them nothing but success this season.”
