2012 ASA Mid West Tour Announced

The American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and GrandStay Hospitality releases its tentative schedule for the 2012 racing season. The schedule is tentatively set to include 13 events.

“We celebrated our fifth year in 2011 and it was what we felt to be our best year ever from a business and attendance stand point. Now we have some momentum, and its time take the series to a new level with sponsors, our schedule, and our race teams,” said Steve Einhaus, ASAMT VP.

As it has for the past three years, the ASAMT will kick off its season with the 4th Annual “Joe Shear Classic 136” at Madison International Speedway on Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th. Opening the season at Madison for the Joe Shear Classic has become a milestone date. The rain date for the Joe Shear Classic is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 11th and 12th.

On May 19th, the ASA Midwest Tour opens up the season at State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI with a 150 lap feature event. The 2011 event was a nail-biter with one of several first-time ASAMT winners as Mark Mackesy edged out a long battle with Bryan Reffner for the win.

One of the biggest additions to the 2012 schedule is the inclusion of the famed, historic Milwaukee Mile on Tuesday, June 12th for a 150 mile event. “We have some major news pertaining to the Milwaukee Mile event that is unreleased, and we hope that in the next month we’ll have all of the details finalized. It’s our plan to include the first ever Big 8 Series race as the under card to our main event, so the pits at Milwaukee will be full of the best stars of the Midwest,” added Einhaus.

On Saturday, June 23rd, teams will head back to Illiana Motor Speedway for the traditional “Elmer Musgrave Memorial” 100 lap event. This is historically one of the hottest races on the schedule, both on and off the track. Past event winners have included the likes of Boris Jurkovic, Jacob Goede, Steve Carlson and Ross Kenseth.

The ASAMT will return once again to Marshfield Motor Speedway on June 30th. After last year’s excitement on the 1/2 mile oval, sparks are sure to fly. This will be one explosive 100 lap event you will not want to miss and a great way to head into the mid-season.

On July 20th, the ASA Midwest Tour returns to Grundy County Speedway for the “Wayne Carter Classic 125.” Last year’s ASAMT event at Grundy County Speedway saw an almost sell-out crowd and a great night of racing. This will be a great weekend of racing in the Chicagoland area as the Nationwide Series will be racing just 20 mins from Grundy at Chicagoland on Sunday afternoon.

A second date has been added for Madison International Speedway on Friday, August 4th. “Madison stepped up to the plate and wanted to buy a second show. The ASAMT opened its first ever racing event at MIS and we are proud of what we can offer the fans who are craving Super Late Model racing. I have to thank Terry Kunes and Dave Gruenberg for believing in our program,” said Einhaus. This will be a 100 lap event.

Norway Speedway has been re-added to the schedule on Friday, August 10th for a 125 lap feature event. Jamie Iverson has won every ASAMT event at Norway and drivers will be hungry to knock him off the throne.
On Saturday, August 18th, drivers and teams will head back to Elko Speedway. This year’s event will be 125 laps on one of the most competitive two-groove tracks in the Upper Midwest. In 2011, Skylar Holzhausen became the richest kid in the ASAMT, taking home $10,000 and his first ever ASAMT victory.

Minnesota brings back its Labor Day racing tradition at Raceway Park Speedway in Shakpee, MN. This year’s event will be a two-day show on Saturday, Sept 1st and Sunday, Sept. 2nd with a 125 lap feature. Last year’s event was full of excitement. 2007 ASAMT Champ, Nathan Haseleu took the checkered flag for the second consecutive year after a long grueling race.

Iowa Speedway is by far one of the biggest events on the 2012 schedule with a 150 lap feature. This race will be featured on September 14th before the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event that weekend. With the visibility of all the NCWTS owners and teams, along with a huge crowd, this event will provide great exposure for the ASAMT, along with its drivers and teams.

The ASAMT will head to another new venue as the season begins to wind down. On September 29th, they will head south to I-44 Lebanon Speedway in Lebanon, MO. “We are very excited to head to Lebanon, MO (I-44) Speedway to get some southern flavor and to visit our good friend, Craig Armstrong,” said ASAMT VP, Steve Einhaus. Track Manager, Craig Armstrong added, “This event was such a historic one on the ARTGO Western Swing. We are so honored to have the return of the greatest drivers of the Midwest and I am really looking forward to working with Tim (Olson) and Steve again.”

The season will come to a close at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway on October 6th and 7th for the 43rd Annual Oktoberfest 100 lap event. Not only will another Oktoberfest Champion be crowned, but the 2012 ASAMT season champion will be put in the record books.
