Ray Black Jr. excited to return to site of breakthrough finish

After a solid Top-20 finish at Kentucky Speedway last weekend, NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) driver Ray Black Jr. is thrilled to be returning to Dover International Speedway, the site of one his strongest performances of the season so far. The driver of the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet and his SS Green Light Racing team were fast at Dover from the start of the weekend and turned in an excellent 17th place finish back in May.

“I enjoy racing at Dover,” stated Black. “The concrete surface there is something different and makes it a little trickier to figure out, so when we do have a solid run like we had last time it just makes it feel that much more impactful. Dover is a fast short track and I can’t wait to get back out there this weekend.”

Short tracks have been a strength of Black’s rookie NXS season, as he and his team have recorded one Top-15, four Top-20 and eight Top-25 finishes this season at one-mile-long or shorter tracks.

“Short tracks definitely even out the playing field a little bit,” Black explained. “The engine doesn’t play as big of a role at those tracks, so the driver has a little bit more responsibility and we can be a little bit more aggressive with the moves we make to gain positions. I grew up racing short tracks, so I’m always happy to be getting back to them. If we bring the same car we brought last time, I see no reason why we can’t earn a Top-15 finish.”

Black will once again be visiting the Dover Air Force Base this weekend and hosting two base members during Saturday’s race. Black will have the opportunity to fly in a C-17 Orientation flight and participate in an autograph signing at the base before Saturday’s big event.

“It always feels good to give back to the military,” Black said. “They sacrifice so much to serve our country so anything we can do to give back to them and treat them to a day at the races is important to me.”
