Rare Mechanical Failure Stops Dakoda Armstrong at Talladega

Talladega Superspeedway is one of Dakoda Armstrong’s favorite tracks that the NASCAR XFINITY Series visits and his past performances indicate why – so needless to say he was very much looking forward to the running of the Sparks Energy 300.  However, a rare mechanical failure on his No. 28 Winfield Toyota would force Dakoda to the garage only a few laps into the race for needed repairs.  While he would return to action, he was relegated to a cautious approach for the remainder of the race and a season worst 34th place finish.

“Well that was a very disappointing day and not what any of us on this JGL Racing team needed,” said Armstrong.  “The green flag flew and the car fired off real well and there after a few laps we just lost all power on our No. 28 Winfield Toyota.  I guess it was something crazy with some wiring.”

With Talladega qualifying consisting of single car runs, Dakoda would roll off the 300-mile event from the 22nd position as a result of his effort.  Looking forward to seeing how his No. 28 Winfield Toyota would handle in the draft, Armstrong would fire off the opening laps comfortably before disaster struck on lap three when he lost all power.  Being forced to the garage for needed diagnosis and repairs, he would lose 25 laps to the field in the process.  Once his JGL Racing machine was back on track the only option was to avoid any on track troubles and safely come home with the best finish possible.

“We are not really sure how well our car would have done in the draft but it fired off pretty decent there at the start,” added Dakoda.  “We have not had any mechanical failures like this all year so this is a rare deal for sure.  We will utilize the upcoming week off to regroup and set our sights on the next event in Dover.”

The 34th-place finish would drop Armstrong to the 16th position in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers’ standings – 29 points out of the top-12.

Armstrong and his JGL Racing team next head to Dover International Speedway for the running of the XFINITY 200.  The 10th race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be Saturday May 14th and can be seen LIVE on FOX at 2:00 pm ET.  It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
