Brian Scott Finishes 23rd at Daytona International Speedway

As America celebrated the Fourth of July, so did the NASCAR XFINITY Series at Daytona International Speedway. After rain delayed the start of the Subway Firecracker 250 powered by Coca-Cola, Richard Childress Racing driver Brian Scott dominated the field during the 100-lap race, leading 84 laps of the event. With two laps to go, Scott was fighting for the win when he was collected in an on-track accident. The patriotic red-white and blue No. 2 Shore Lodge team made extensive repairs to the Chevrolet, returned to action and finished the race in 23rd place.

Start – 2       Finish – 23        Laps Led – 84         Points – 7

Brian Scott Quote:
“I hate it for everyone on this Shore Lodge team. RCR and ECR did such a great job on giving me a car that stayed out front and was easily capable of winning the race. I told myself I was going to be aggressive and I was going for the win. I was trying to time the run and I knew the outside lane was coming and I tried to get up there. In hindsight, I should’ve stayed glued to the bottom and worked with my teammate. I hate that this team is not in Victory Lane here in the XFINITY Series.”

Collected in Late-Race Incident, Ty Dillon finishes 26th in Daytona

Ty Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Yuengling America’s Oldest Brewery Chevrolet Camaro to a 26th-place finish Saturday evening, after being collected in a late-race incident under the lights at Daytona International Speedway. Dillon qualified sixth earlier in the afternoon and was able to race inside the top five for 80 of the race’s scheduled 100 laps. The 23-year-old driver, working with crew chief Nick Harrison for the first time this season, proved he had a car capable of winning. However, after restarting fourth on lap 85, Dillon was collected in an on-track incident creating heavy damage to the No. 3 Camaro. Harrison and crew repaired the damage to the best of their ability, returning Dillon to the race track for the remainder of the race. The No. 3 Yuengling Chevrolet Camaro crossed the finish line 26th, salvaging the best finish possible under the circumstances. Dillon is currently third in the NASCAR XFINITY Series driver point standings.

Start – 6        Finish -26      Laps Led – 0       Points – 3

TY DILLON QUOTE:

“We had a car capable of running up front and winning this race, but it’s the nature of racing at superspeedways and we got caught up in an unfortunate situation. I really appreciate all my guys working hard to get our car back out for the remaining laps and salvage some points. They did a heck of a job repairing this Yuengling Chevy. We’ll move on to Kentucky and rebound.”

Austin Dillon Earns Third Victory of the Season at Daytona International Speedway

Austin Dillon and the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet team claimed their third victory of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season at Daytona International Speedway in the Subway Firecracker 250 Powered by Coca-Cola on July Fourth. After starting the scheduled 100-lap event from the seventh position, Dillon slipped out of the top lane draft and fell as far back as 32nd place by lap 20. Crew chief Danny Stockman called the 25-year-old driver to pit road for four tires, fuel and a small chassis adjustment during the competition caution on lap 16. Dillon began his plan with drafting partners to make his way back through the field racing within the top 25 for the next 40 circuits around the famed track. The Stockman-led team visited pit road again on lap 58, under green flag conditions, for right-side tires and fuel rejoining the racing surface in fifth place. Dillon held on to the draft and missed two late-race incidents to cross the finish line in first place. Saturday’s victory is the Rheem team’s third victory of the season and 10th top-10 finish in 2015.

Start – 7           Finish – 1         Laps Led – 9    Owner’s Points – 3

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“This win is by far one of the most special. To win at Daytona is an incredible feeling. We didn’t really have a great car in the draft, but we were patient and smart and were there at the end. It’s like a game of chess out there, you have to make the right moves at the right time and put yourself in position to attack. I can’t say enough about this Rheem team. We made a couple of changes back at the shop over the last week, and it’s great to be back with my old crew chief Danny Stockman and the boys. I’m really proud of them. This is a great way to celebrate the Fourth of July.”

Brendan Gaughan Finishes 25th at Daytona International Speedway

Brendan Gaughan earned his 10th top-10 qualifying effort of the season Saturday at Daytona International Speedway. After a rain-delayed start to the Subway Firecracker 250 Powered by Coca-Cola, the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team took the green flag under the lights in the ninth position. During the competition caution on lap 16, the No. 62 Richard Childress Racing team managed to come out unscathed after a close-call on pit road with another competitor. Gaughan restarted 19th on lap 19 and began working with teammate Austin Dillon on the highline to maneuver through the field. By lap 75, the Las Vegas native was back inside the top 10 racing in the eighth position. With only eight laps to go in the scheduled 100-lap event, Gaughan was collected in a 12-car accident that brought out the red flag. The RCR team was able to get Gaughan back on track and salvage a 25th-place finish. Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point team are currently ninth in the driver point standings as the NASCAR XFINITY Series heads to Kentucky Speedway.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:

“The team and I can’t seem to shake the monkey off of our back at Daytona. Definitely not how we wanted to end our day, but it is Daytona. You never know what is going to happen at this place. The boys did a great job getting us back out on track so we could collect as many spots as possible. Nothing we can do but keep our heads up and prepare for Kentucky.”
