JJ Yeley Earns Hard Fought Top-20 Finish in Richmond

JJ Yeley and his JGL Racing team endured a long and somewhat frustrating day at Richmond International Raceway on Friday but managed to make the best of it. Yeley and his team battled to safely bring home their No. 28 Texas 28 Spirits Stage Toyota to a 19th-place finish in the running of the ToyotaCare 250 at the Virginia track.

“That was not exactly what we were looking for today but everyone just worked hard and stayed after it,” said Yeley.  “We just never really seemed to be able to dial in our No. 28 Toyota and sometimes that is hard to do when you have only one practice session regardless of how long it it is.  We played with air pressure during the race and it was such a fine line of what worked for us.  At times we seemed to be getting a handle on it and then times it just didn’t work.”

The No. 28 team would start the 250 lap event from the 32nd position after their worst qualifying effort of the young season.  While still trying to get a grip on the handling of the No. 28 Toyota, JJ would slowly move through the field in the early stages of the race.  With nothing to lose, Yeley and the JGL Racing team decided to gamble and come down pit road under caution for their last pit stop with 100 laps remaining.  With many cars waiting for that final stop and being forced to pit under green flag conditions late in the race – the strategy would pay off and gain Yeley valuable spots to the field enabling him to come home with his fourth Top-20 finish of the 2015 season.

“I am proud of my JGL Racing team as they showed persistence in never giving up in what was a long and at times frustrating day for us,” added Yeley.  “Hopefully we learned a good amount from today that will help us in future races – especially when we come back here later in the year.  Now we can turn our focus to Talladega next week and with our powerful superspeedway showings we have some high hopes.”

The 19th place finish moved Yeley up two spots to 14th in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers’ standings – 67 points out of the Top-10.
