Ambrose Heads North In Hopes of Regaining Momentum

Marcos Ambrose heads north to New Hampshire Motor Speedway in hopes of bettering his career best finish of ninth at the one-mile track last July. After a disappointing finish in Daytona the DEWALT crew hopes to continue their mid-season summer hot streak and get their sixth top-13 finish in just seven races.

Just past the halfway mark of the season, Ambrose has four top-10 and 10 top-15 finishes, two pole position awards and eight top-10 starting positions. The driver of the No. 9 machine has been very consistent and gained momentum over the last six weeks as he has finished no worse than 13th, excluding Saturday night’s race at Daytona.

The Australian native’s best finish (ninth) at New Hampshire Motor Speedway came in last year’s July race and his best start (12th) came in 2010. He has completed 1,770 of 1,775 laps attempted at the 1.058-mile track, leading six of them. Ambrose enters this weekend’s 318-mile race in 19th place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.

Ambrose on Racing at New Hampshire: “I’m looking forward to going to Loudon this weekend and putting Daytona behind us. We had some tough luck last Saturday night and we really need to get our momentum back. We had a top-10 finish in Loudon last July and I’m hoping to reignite our summer streak with another top-10 finish this weekend.

“The biggest challenge at Loudon is the flat nature of the track. You really have to have a lot of left-side weight through the corners. It’s not easy to get that weight, but the biggest thing for me is to make sure I feel like the left side is doing enough work driving through the turns. My guys have done an awesome job the last two months of giving me really great cars and I expect they will have the setup spot on again this weekend. I can’t wait to get to Loudon and get behind the wheel of my DEWALT Ford to see what we’ve got.”

Comments from Crew Chief Todd Parrott on Going to Loudon: “Loudon has long straightaways and really tight turns. It’s very similar to racing at Martinsville. Brakes are very important and we have to be careful we don’t overuse the brakes. It’s a short race in terms of miles, but it is a very hard race on the car and equipment. The DEWALT Ford will have to turn in the center good. It’s a place where you can get pretty tight in the center and it’s a flat track so you need a lot of weight in the left side to keep it low. The biggest problem we fight at New Hampshire is being tight in the center of the corners. We had a good run at Loudon last year and we are looking to build off of that this weekend and bring home another top-10 finish or better in our DEWALT Ford.”
