Marcos Ambrose heads to famed 2.5-mile superspeedway in Daytona Beach, Fla., looking to give “The King” the ultimate birthday gift, a win. Team owner Richard Petty celebrated his 75th birthday on Monday and Ambrose would like to continue the festivities with his boss in Victory Lane Saturday night beneath the fireworks at Daytona International Speedway.
Ambrose has some impressive stats heading into this weekend to help make his dream of winning become a reality. Earlier this season at Daytona International Speedway Ambrose finished the Bud Shootout in third, The Gatorade Duel in seventh and “The Great American Race” in 13th. The Australian native’s best start (seventh) came in this year’s Daytona 500 and his best finish (sixth) came in the 2009 Fourth of July Weekend event. Ambrose sits in 17th-place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings heading into this weekend’s 400-mile race.
DEWALT colors will adorn Ambrose’s car this weekend, as it will return as the primary partner of the No. 9 Ford Fusion in Daytona.

Ambrose on Racing at Daytona:”Daytona is a fun racetrack for me. I ran really well there earlier this season, so I’m ready to unload and pick up where we left off in February. Daytona is a chess match, but it helps if you can a have a fast car. We had a lot of horsepower in the 500, and I expect the same going back this weekend. Our DEWALT team has momentum this summer with five-consecutive finishes of 13th or better, and we are looking to make that six-consecutive on Saturday night.”
Comments from Crew Chief Todd Parrott on Going to Daytona: “It’s going to be another hot weekend in Daytona, just like Kentucky was last week. The biggest concern for us at Daytona is going to be keeping the car’s temperature under control and making sure the engine doesn’t overheat. Judging how long our DEWALT Ford is going to be able to stay in the pack before needing to duck out for clean air will be our biggest challenge this weekend. We are going to have to avoid ‘The Big One,’ just like we do at every other restrictor-plate race. If we can keep our car out of trouble, I think we’ll have as good a shot as anyone to end up in Victory Lane at the end of the night.”
