From the start of the 2015 season, Martin Truex Jr. has been on a roll. Over the past seven races, he has finished inside of the top 10, and in just a little bit of time, he has been on an impressive showing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Ever since the Cup Series returned to the track after the conclusion of the 2014 season — in the non-points exhibition race of the Sprint Unlimited — Truex had gotten off to a fast start. During the Sprint Unlimited, Truex nearly won, but went on to finish second, setting the tone for the year.
Once the season officially got under way, Truex kept his momentum going at Daytona. Upon starting within the top 10, Truex stayed among the leaders and even led a lap. An eighth-place finish helped place Truex gather confidence heading into Atlanta.
As the season progressed, Furniture Row Motorsports has found consistency on the track. At Atlanta, he captured a sixth-place finish. At Las Vegas, he captured his best result of the year — a second-place finish. The trend continued with a seventh-place finish in Phoenix, eighth in Auto Club, sixth at Martinsville and ninth at Texas.
He has an average start of 17.6 and an average finish of 18.7 through the first seven races.
Truex currently sits in third in the standings. On the Chase grid he sits in sixth, as the first driver with the most points without a win.
Truex’s stats within the first seven races are an improvement from 2014, when he finished the year with one top-five finish and three DNFs. He had 23 lead lap finishes, as well as an average start of 20.1 and an average finish of 20.2.
The Cup Series is scheduled to race at Bristol Motor Speedway for the first of two races at the track this season on Sunday. In the past, Bristol hasn’t been the best track for Truex. In over 14 races at the 0.533-mile track, he has captured two top-five finishes and nine lead lap finishes. He has an average start of 17.6 and an average finish of 20.3.
Truex has found success at the track in the past by winning an XFINITY Series race, a second-place finish in the Cup Series in 2011 and a third-place finish in 2012.
He also fractured his wrist during a wreck in the August race in 2013.
If Truex is able to get another top 10 finish at Bristol, not only would it improve his Bristol results, but it would also keep his recent streak alive.
