Bowman brings home top-30 finish in Darlington

Alex Bowman and the No. 23 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 29th at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway on Saturday night.  The BK Racing team worked diligently on the balance of their car throughout the 500-mile race before ultimately bringing home their third top-30 finish of the 2014 race season.

Bowman rolled off 34th for his first Sprint Cup Series race at the track pegged as “too tough to tame.”  Early in the race, the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender reported challenges with the balance of his car.  Describing his car as loose in, tight through the center and loose off, Bowman worked closely with his BK Racing crew to devise a strategy for air pressure and chassis adjustments to help improve the balance of their racecar.  As the sun set and track conditions changed, Bowman and his Dr Pepper team continued to combat a loose condition with their Toyota Camry.  Throughout the duration of the 500-mile event, the No. 23 team continued to work through a variety of chassis and air pressure adjustments to improve the balance of their car.  By the time the checkered flag waved, Bowman was scored in the 29th position.

“Our Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team didn’t exactly have the run we hoped for tonight, but I’m happy that we stuck with it and brought the car home in one piece,” commented Bowman.  “Darlington Raceway is always a challenge-that’s how it got its nickname.  We didn’t expect tonight to be easy, but I’m happy that we were able to have a clean race and bring our car home in one piece.  I’m looking forward to getting back to another short track at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway in a couple weeks.  We’ve run well at short tracks in the past, and I hope we can continue that trend at Richmond.”
