Back to school night scheduled for Saturday night

It’s all about the kids this Saturday, Aug. 27 at Lonesome Pine Raceway.

Children will receive free NASCAR Acceleration Nation school supplies and race car rides around the track prior to Saturday’s race during Coeburn Home Center Back to School Night.

Only two events remain this season and drivers are looking to gain as many points as possible.

Wayne Hale currently leads the championship standings in the Late Model Stock Car division. With eight wins and no finish worse than third, Hale leads over Steve Deskins by 63 points.

With Hale’s significant lead, the defending track champion only needs to start the remaining races to clinch the title once again.

With four wins on the season, Elby Harrison leads the Modified Street championship standings. Rob Austin trails Harrison by nine points and Chris Tunnell holds 33 points behind in third.

The Pure 4 championship battle is neck with father and son John and Jason Ketron separated by only three points. John Ketron has five wins this season to Jason Ketron’s two.

Rocky Yates is running away with the Mod 4 point standings. Yates leads over Chris Coleman by 77 points.

The closest championship is the Pure Street division. Doug Austin and Jamie Meadows are tied with 203 points each. Austin leads the standings with four wins, while Meadows has two.

Blaine Harrison has wrapped up the Bandeleros championship. Harrison has won six of seven races this season.

Grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. on Saturday, qualifying is at 6 p.m., race car rides begins at 6:30 p.m. and racing gets underway at 7 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission is $10 and children ages 12 and younger are admitted free.
