Practice: Kumpen Below The Record

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series drivers are back on track at Tours Speedway for the final meeting of the regular season on the first purpose-built NASCAR short track in Europe. At the end the Friday’s two practice sessions, Anthony Kumpen (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) led the ELITE 1 division classification thanks to his 16.478 seconds lap around the .403-mile oval. 

The Belgian, who went .013 seconds below the current track record set by Nicolò Rocca (#56 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) in 2015, was followed by NASCAR Next driver Alon Day (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS). The israeli driver topped the Junior Jérôme Sarran Trophy by edging Gianmarco Ercoli (#9 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang).  Frederic Gabillon was fourth fastest, a mere .010 seconds slower than Day. Thomas Ferrando completed a top-5 encompassed in less than two tenths of a second. 

Dario Caso led the Challenger Trophy classification with his 12th fastest time, just .637 from the leader. 

Brands Hatch winner Salvador Tineo Arroyo (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) was fastest in the ELITE 2 Division with a lap in 16.752 seconds, ahead of Ferrando and Gabriele Gardel (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS). Italian rookie Riccardo Geltrude (#7 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang) led the Rookie Cup with the fourth fastest lap time overall. RDV Compétition driver Hugo Bec (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang) rounded out the top-5 three tenths of a second behind the leader. 

Renzo Calcinati (#12 Virgin Radio Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang) was 9th fastest and dominated the Legend Trophy classification, while Arianna Casoli (#8 Vict Motorsport Ford Mustang) led the Lady Cup.

Qualifying will start at 10:00am CET on Saturday June 25 and each driver will have two flying laps to go for the pole position.
