NASCAR Hall of Fame Nominee: Ricky Rudd Preview

Ricky Rudd was a NASCAR driver from 1975 to 2007. He has 906 starts with 23 wins and 29 poles.

Rudd was considered as a driver who was “tough as nails”. He is known as the Ironman of NASCAR for over a decade. He held the record for the most consecutive starts (788) before that record was broken by Jeff Gordon in 2015. However, Rudd is ranked within the top five of most career starts. Rudd has 194 top fives and 374 top-10’s over his career. He won six races with Rudd Performance Motorsports, a team in which he was the owner/driver. With that team, he won the 1997 Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Rudd scored at least one win in 16 consecutive seasons. Rudd was the 1977 premier series rookie of the year.

Rudd has driven for Rick Hendrick, Robert Yates, the Wood Brothers, Junie Donlavey, Richard Childress, Bud Moore, himself, Al Rudd, and Mike DiProspero and Bill Gardner with Digard Motorsports.

In 2006, Rudd was named Virginian of the Year. He has been inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, Daytona Beach Stock Car Hall of Fame, and the Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame.
