Terry Jones; Rette Jones Racing Looking For Redemption At Talladega

Looking for redemption.

That seems to be a running tag-line for some of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards competitors heading to Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, site of Friday afternoon’s General Tire 200.

For veteran driver Terry Jones and his Rette Jones Racing team, the fourth race of the season is indeed about redemption, but it’s also about more, a lot more.

“We’re back at it again,” said Jones. “Daytona was a bust. You know that the “Big One” is likely possible, but I didn’t expect it at Lap 2. Unfortunately, we just had too much damage and couldn’t get back on track. The good news is that we have our No. 30 Jones Group International / J-AAR Excavating Toyota ready to go for Talladega this weekend.”

The second and final restrictor plate race creates a lot of buzz for obvious reasons, but Jones, a native of Amherstburg, Ontario hopes that the 76-lap shootout provides an opportunity for his team to flex their muscle, pull off an upset that carries them straight to Victory Lane.

“The name of the restrictor plate game is survival and traditionally, when we’ve survived, we’ve had a shot at winning the race,” explained Jones. “The guys have worked hard to make sure we can come down here and not only be competitive, but have a car that everyone in the field wants to work with. Friday is a quick day. Practice, qualify and race. I like it.”

While Jones sets his sights on making his 56th career ARCA start, his partner, Mark Rette will be several hundred miles north leading Rette Jones Racing’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East program, which will take center stage at VIRginia International Raceway for Saturday’s Biscuitville 125.

Despite his absence, Rette feels he has assembled a good team that is capable of leading Jones to his seventh career top-10 finish.

“Terry only competes in a couple races a year, so we wanted to make sure that if this was his last race of the season, he had a strong car,” noted Rette. “A lot of our K&N guys are regulars on the ARCA program, but we’re focused on doing good things like we have all year with Dominique Van Wieringen. She’s an amazing talent – who we hope we’ll be able to bring into ARCA soon.

“Even though I’m not there with Terry, I’m confident in the group that we have put together and I think they are ready to prove big things.”

Jones will make his ninth start at the 2.66-mile superspeedway and looks to better his career-best fifth place finish in 2013.

In addition to Jones Group International and J-AAR Excavating, Rette Jones Racing welcomes Durobyte, Russo’s Tinting, Pro System Brakes and Goodridge Fluid Transfer Systems as associate marketing partners for the fourth of 20 races this season.

“We’re thankful for the support we have for Talladega,” Rette mentioned. “It’s because of Jones Group International, J-AAR Excavating, Durobyte, Russo’s and Goodridge Fluid Transfer Systems that we’re heading to Talladega this weekend with a positive outlook, but most importantly ready to do work. We know without them, this race would not be possible.”

With Rette focusing on the team’s K&N program, Logan Yiengst will serve as crew chief Friday afternoon.

The fourth installment for the 2016 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season is set for Friday, Apr. 29 from the 2.66-mile superspeedway Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. The event will be televised live on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) beginning at 4:00 p.m. The General Tire 200 (76 laps / 202 miles) serves as the first of three racing events at the restrictor plate track joining the NASCAR XFINITY and Sprint Cup Series respectively. All times are Central.
