Claro/TracFone DeltaWing coupe finds success at the IMSA Daytona test

The Claro/TracFone DeltaWing coupe had two very successful days testing at the newly refurbished Daytona International Speedway.

Completing a combined 142 laps of the 3.56-mile track, both Andy Meyrick and Katherine Legge managed to get in some great endurance running and kept up a very competitive pace. New to the team for the test was Sean Rayhall who brilliantly drove the coupe recording an additional 37 laps.

The team benefitted from increased mid-corner grip thanks to some new mechanical changes including differential and shock improvements. The coupe’s reliability over the past two days hopefully is a good sign the gremlins of last season are a thing of the past.

“It was a very successful test from the standpoint of speed and reliability. We learnt some things I believe will help us in the future. It was great to have Sean join us for the test, he did a really good job.”

“I was absolutely delighted to drive the DeltaWing last week and it was a good fit for me at the test. I was really satisfied with our pace and this will be a great car for the Rolex 24.”

“Daytona was a really good test for us and it was also the first chance we’ve had to go back to Daytona since the 24-hour race earlier this year. The gains we’ve been able to make throughout the season put us in a really good position to do a lot of full-tank runs. The car was very well balanced right out of the box so on the first day it was nice to be able to run a lot of long stints, and to run more like we do during the race rather than spending time adjusting the car to find another tenth or two.

“On the second day we did spend some time adjusting the car a little just to make it more comfortable for the drivers and to find just a bit more speed, which we were able to accomplish even though track time was limited due to on again, off again rain showers all day. All in all, I’m very pleased with the outcome. All three drivers did a fantastic job and never put a wheel wrong over the course of two days. The team as a whole performed remarkably well and are continuing to work very hard to ensure that we’re both fast and reliable.”
