Big Points on Line at MIR Doubleheader

The points battles in the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams are staying tight and could get really shaken up on Saturday, April 25 when racers will get an opportunity to race in two events on the same day at Memphis International Raceway (MIR).

The snow and ice that lingered through the month of March set up this scheduled doubleheader Saturday. The day’s racing also includes the first time the 2nd Hand Power Stock/SuperStock cars will get their first combo races this calendar year.

Gates will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday with time trials starting at noon. After the completion of the first race, drivers will get one time trail run before the start of the second race (which should being at approximately 5 p.m.). Crew admission will be $20 for the doubleheader.

With so many points on the table on Saturday, a strong day can do a lot for someone’s championship hopes.

“It’s going to be an interesting weekend,” said MIR Director of Drag Strip Operations Paul Cartwright. “The points races are all pretty close and we’re expecting a big turnout of the Stock/SS cars for their first chance to race at the track this year.”

Rick’s Powder Coating Super Pro has four drivers within 11 points of the lead. Shane Stout has 221 points and is up nine on both Leigh Hubbard and Rusty Ashmore. Michael Hall is two points behind Hubbard and Ashmore.

John Castelaw III also has a nine point lead in B&B Towing Foot Brake over second place Caffey Broadus. Billy Foster Sr. is 21 points off the pace in third.

Foster is enjoying the lead in R.T. Turbines DOT with 224 points. Cliff Hubbard is in second with 203 and David Elam is third with 191 points.

The closest championship battle is in R.T. Turbines Junior Dragster where Tyler Poindexter is maintaining a two point lead over his brother, Justin. Third place Drew Tracey can make up some ground with a strong weekend.
