Kaz Grala finishes fourth at the Last Great Colosseum

16-year-old Kaz Grala scored his best finish of the young 2015 season placing fourth with a strong run in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series PittLite 125 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“While celebrating in victory lane would be better, I couldn’t be happier leaving Bristol with a top-five finish and a car without a scratch on it,” said Grala. “We had great battles all race long – literally giving it everything we had. I’m so proud to be the top finishing Toyota in the field!”

Grala started the weekend qualifying his No. 3 Kiklos Camry in 12th position. “We had a good qualifying run, but we knew our race pace was going to be even better,” said Ben Kennedy Racing crew chief, Mike Fritts. “We focused most of our practice time on longer runs, so we were confident that we would be able to gain positions during the race.”

Grala started moving up right from the drop of the green flag. From the halfway point of the race until the checkered flag, Grala battled back-and-forth between 3rd and 4th place. The six cautions and resulting restarts made for some exciting racing, which Grala enjoyed as much as the fans did.

Team principal, Ben Kennedy was in attendance at The World’s Fastest Half-Mile and commented on Grala’s incredible battle after the last restart.

“It was a solid performance for Kaz and the No. 3 Kiklos Camry,” said Kennedy.  “Kaz did a great job battling  for third while dealing with a lot of pressure from behind. In the end, he was just too good off the corners and held on to fourth coming to the checkered flag.”

Grala and the Ben Kennedy Racing team leave Bristol sitting 5th in the championship points standings. Look for them to be back in action on May 16th at Iowa Speedway where the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East meets the Pro Series West in the Casey’s General Store 150.
