NKNPSW: Sargeant Holds Off Mayhew to Claim First Career Win

JOPLIN, Mo. – Dalton Sargeant captured his first career NASCAR touring series victory on Saturday at the Kern County Raceway from the pole. Sargeant, 17, captured the victory by holding off David Mayhew all race long to lead 75 of the 160 laps. The NAPA Auto Parts 150 had to be extended after a late race caution put the event into overtime.

David Mayhew led the other 85 laps of the day but could not keep Sargeant behind him to take the victory. Mayhew started the event in fourth behind the wheel of his No. 17 MMI Services Chevrolet. The California native captured his 44th top 10 finish at Kern.

Noah Gragson also made his NASCAR K&N Pro Series debut on Saturday. After starting from eighth, Gragson was able to stay clean all night long. By this being his first start in this series, it certainly gives the driver momentum heading into his next K&N West division start.

James Bickford made his 15th career NASCAR K&N Pro Series start Saturday night at the Kern County Raceway. Bickford is a 17-year old driver from Napa, California and is one of the fan favorites in the series. He brought home a fourth-place finish last night after starting the event from fifth.

Brandon McReynolds, son of NASCAR broadcaster Larry McReynolds, had problems in the 2015 K&N Pro Series West opener. After starting the event from second, McReynolds had to bring his car down pit road with only four laps complete. Team discovered radiator problems that forced them to finish 27th.

The race can be viewed Friday, April 3rd at 6:30 p.m. Et. on NBCSN. The next race for the series will be at Irwindale Speedway. Live coverage of practice, qualifying and race will be provided by NASCARhometracks.com and Speed51. NBCSN will carry the race on Thursday, April 16 with the time still to be determined.
