Christina Nielsen Preparing For 2015 With TRG-AMR

Once finished with exams at Aarhus University in Denmark, Nielsen will move to California in January to be with her new team TRG-AMR. There she will continue preparing for the 2015 season of TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and Pirelli World Challenge.

Nielsen, who spent the past three years in a Porsche, has multiple challenges ahead as she and TRG-AMR progress through the off-season. She’ll continue working to understand the nuances of the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, all while learning how her new team operates.

“There is still so much to learn about this car,” Nielsen said. “That will be one of the challenges next year, but the car is competitive and I can’t wait to learn from it. Meeting the team has been a great experience as well. They are a group of outgoing people, so it has been easy and fun to get to know them and how they work.”

Nielsen is coming off of a full season of IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and the Tequila Patròn North American Endurance Championship in 2014. The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge is notably a single driver series while her TPNAEC pursuit included multiple different drivers sharing a car with her throughout the season.

In 2015 Nielsen will have the luxury of a consistent teammate. She will share the 007 Aston Martin with James Davison, a well known character in the United SportsCar Championship paddock.

“James is a great teammate,” Nielsen said. “He is a very talented driver, but he also makes a great co-driver and supporter. He has helped me a lot with data and video. He has shown me that we are in this together and we are in it to win it.”

Davison’s first year in GT racing was the 2014 season with TRG-AMR where he collected four TOTAL Pole awards. Davison is also known for his work in open wheel racing. He finished second in the Indy Lights Championship in 2009 and most recently finished 16th in the 2014 Indianapolis 500.

A teammate like Davison comes with the benefit of working with a high caliber team. Nielsen has worked with well-accomplished teams throughout her career, which has helped her career flourish quickly. Of course, TRG-AMR will expect Nielsen to help them flourish as well.

“We have always tried to work with professional teams so I’m used to them expecting a lot,” Nielsen said. “But I have never been with a team that is so good at commercializing itself, which also requires a lot of work. So I am looking forward to some new challenges within that area.”

As test sessions and public appearances become more frequent, Nielsen is starting to pull her goals for 2015 into focus.

“One of my main goals is to finish every race,” she said. “In TUDOR I think we have a great shot at a couple of podiums but I find PWC hard to judge. I simply don’t know enough about the competition, and it appears next year will be the year to race PWC so I am definitely expecting a really high level of competition.”

Nielsen will continue to test throughout the off-season. Her first event will come shortly after her move to the U.S. in January. The Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona is set to run Jan. 22-25. The first PWC event will take place at Circuit of the Americas March 6-8.
