Dalton Sargeant Returns to Lee Pulliam Performance for ‘Championship Night’ at Orange County Speedway

Dalton Sargeant and the No. 54 Lee Pulliam Performance/Kiker Motorsports Chevrolet SS, will head into unfamiliar territory as Sargeant will make his first career start at Orange County Speedway on Saturday, October 25.  Orange County Speedway will be hosting ‘Championship Night,’ their final event of the 2014 racing season and will feature twin 50-lap events for the late models.  Sargeant will also be making his final appearance in a late model stock car in 2014, a season that saw the 16 year old driver begin not only his stock-car racing career, but also his oval-racing career.

 

  • 2014 Late Model Stock Season Dalton Sargeant made his stock car racing debut in March of 2014 behind the wheel of a late model stock car.  Since that beginning, Sargeant has competed 28 times in a late model stock car, recording one win at Virginia International Raceway, and 21 top-10 finishes.  Sargeant is almost perfect when it comes to top-10 finishes with Lee Pulliam Performance, recording six top-10 finishes in seven races.
  • Orange County Speedway was first built in 1966 and has the slogan of ‘The Fastest 3/8-mile race track in America.’ The track has 19 degree banking in the turns and 16 degrees on the straightaway, all while creating three distinct racing lines.  Orange County Speedway held a points-paying NASCAR Busch Series event from 1983 until 1994.  Famous names like Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, Jack Ingram, Mark Martin, Davey and Donnie Allison, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Darrell Wallace Jr. and Ryan Blaney have all competed at the track, even David Pearson and Glen Wood raced at the speedway when it was dirt.
  • The Month of October was a busy time for Dalton Sargeant and owner/crew chief Lee Pulliam.  Sargeant competed in his first Winchester 400 at the historic Winchester Speedway on October 12.  Sargeant qualified 19th, but competed in the top five for most of the day until a late-race incident relegated him to a 16th-place finish.  Lee Pulliam picked up his second grandfather clock at Martinsville Speedway for the ‘Super Bowl’ of late model racing, the Martinsville 300 on October 5.

“It’s been a really great 2014 racing season for me in late model stock car competition.  I had basically never even sat in a late model or competed full-time on an oval track until March of this year, and to be sitting where we’re at only seven months later is a really big accomplishment.  It’s definitely bitter sweet to see the season coming to a close, but myself, Lee Pulliam and the entire Lee Pulliam Performance team are really excited to come to Orange County Speedway to close out the season.  Orange County is a track I’ve heard so much about and just never had an open weekend where we could compete.  From what people tell me, I’m really glad we got the experience of competing at a track like Winchester just two weeks before I make my debut at Orange County.  I’m confident now that we can unload right off the transporter and be able to attack this 3/8-mile track.  With the knowledge that Lee Pulliam has, I’m really confident our car setup will be close to perfect as it can be, now it’ll just be up to the driver to do the rest!”
