NNS: Elliott Scores Atlanta Pole

Chase Elliott captured his first ever NASCAR Nationwide Series pole on Saturday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Elliott posted a fast time of 30.759 seconds, 180.240 mph. in the third round. He had to wiggle his way between the three rounds after being in seventh and second when round one and two was completed. Elliott goes into the event this evening as the points leader by 13 over Regan Smith.

Starting the Great Clips 300 from the second starting spot will be Kyle Larson after posting a fast time of 30.884 seconds, 179.510 mph. Tonight will mark his 11th start inside the top-10 as he makes his 20th start of the 2014 season. He hopes to bring home his 17th top-10 finish of the year tonight as he did not have a good race last weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway. He was 0.125 seconds off of the pole.

Kyle Busch, who has yet to come home with a Nationwide Series victory at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, will start the event from the third spot. Busch posted a fast time of 30.888 seconds, 179.487 mph. He looks to score his fifth win of the year and hopes to close the gap with the No. 22 Ford in the owner’s points standings. He looks to score his 67th career victory in the series.

Elliott Sadler, who led the first of three rounds, will start the Great Clips 300 from the fifth starting spot. Trevor Bayne, who led the second round, will roll off of pit road for the green flag in seventh. Last year’s winner, Kevin Harvick, will start from the eighth position.

No cars will be going home as only 40 showed up to qualify. There was no on-track incidents during the entire three rounds of knockout qualifying.
