Travis Miller set for NASCAR truck series debut at Iowa

Travis Miller is ready to take the next step in his racing career when he climbs into the No. 27 Hillman Racing Chevrolet Silverado this weekend at Iowa Speedway.  The 24-year-old Chesapeake, Va., native will make his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut in the American Ethanol 200 on Saturday night at the 7/8-mile oval in Newton, Iowa.  Miller competed in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Iowa Speedway in May with X Team Racing and finished 20th after starting 24thin the 154-lap race.

“I can’t wait to get back to Iowa and build on what I learned there in May,” Miller said.  “Because of circumstance, we had to drive through the field a few times in the K&N race, and I think that experience is really going to help me in the truck race this weekend.  I couldn’t think of a better track to make my first Camping World Truck Series start because I’ve turned quite few laps there at Iowa.  The Hillman Racing team has solid equipment and proven results with young drivers so far this season, and I’m looking forward to working with Chris (Showalter, crew chief) and the entire crew to gain experience and post a solid result.”

In addition to his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East experience, Miller has 23 CARS Pro Cup Series starts to his credit at tracks like The Milwaukee Mile, South Boston (Va.) Speedway and Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.  Miller started his racing career behind the wheel of a Legend Car before progressing to the Late Model ranks, turning laps on some of Virginia’s toughest short tracks.

“It’s always exciting to give a young driver like Travis the opportunity to make his first start in one of NASCAR’s major touring series,” said team owner Mike Hillman, Sr.  “The enthusiasm that he brought into the Hillman Racing shop this week really energized the team, and he’s been very hands-on with the race truck helping the guys get it prepared for the race this weekend in Iowa.”

Additionally, HotTorque.com will ride along the quarter panels of the No. 27 Hillman Racing Chevrolet this weekend at Iowa Speedway.  HotTorque, a social media forum and phone APP for car enthusiasts, was designed to help connect, communicate and share with other likeminded automotive enthusiasts worldwide, and it became the world’s first social media APP for the motoring enthusiast to sponsor a NASCAR vehicle when it debuted on the No. 33 Sprint Cup Series car at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May.
