After Young’s Motorsports driver Austin Hill made his seventh start of the season, veteran driver Tyler Young returns to the driver’s seat for Saturday night’s DC Solar 350 at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway.
Known for its glamorous city lights, illustrious casinos and award-winning acclaimed shows and concerts, it’s also a city where luck is essential. For Tyler Young and his No. 02 Young’s Building Systems / Randco Chevrolet Silverado team, they are hoping to carry the luck from the tables to the race track in their final standalone race of the season.
With any or some luck, the Midland, Texas native is hoping to reel in his third top-10 finish under the Las Vegas skyline.
“This is a race I always look forward to,” said Young. “This standalone race at Las Vegas allows the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams and regulars to really stand out in the spotlight. Over the years, Las Vegas has been a fun place to race. It’s wide groove and fast speeds provide plenty of side-by-side racing. It should be a good show for the fans that come out and attend.”
In two starts at Las Vegas, Young started a career-best 10th in 2014 and finished a solid 16th last October. With his Young’s Motorsports striving to improve their competition on a weekly basis, the 24-year-old is hopeful that their firm intermediate results will continue to shine.
“We’ve finished inside the top-20 in all but one of our mile and half-tracks this season,” added Young. “That’s been a big step in the right direction for us. “It’s not only working to make the truck better from the time we unload, but it’s been about just having the ability to be smart during the race and knowing when to push our truck to its limits. 16th was OK last year, but anything less that a top-15 on Saturday night would be disappointing.”
The inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Chase is officially underway and with this weekend’s serving the second race in the seven-race playoff system, Young understand the importance of having the new championship format, but realizes it’s also important for the non-Chase racers to race their way into the spotlight too.
“The Chase is an awesome thing for the truck series,” added Young. “I think you could tell that with the race at Chicagoland and even at New Hampshire last weekend. As the first elimination nears, it’s going to provide unique strategy for those in the Chase and those not. We want to thrive in the spotlight as much as we can during these last half-dozen races.”
With only six races remaining on the calendar this season, Young who has run 12 of the 17 races thus far is hopeful to execute with more strong finishes and build towards 2016.
“We’re working hard on 2016 and hope to announce something soon,” added Young. “In the meantime, I’m focused on doing what I need to do both in and out of the truck – and my guys are resilient. They want Young’s Motorsports to be successful too, so we’ll just keep digging and hope that hard work and a little bit of luck pay off with good results for the rest of the year.”
Young aboard the No. 02 Young’s Building Systems / Randco Chevrolet Silverado will make his 69th career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In 68 previous races, Young has earned a best finish of sixth at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February 2016.
