Johnny Sauter Gets New Crew Chief at ThorSport Racing

As the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series gets ready for its Preseason Thunder testing at Daytona International Speedway on Monday and Tuesday ThorSport Racing has announced that Johnny Sauter will be working with a new crew chief for the 2014 season as Gene Wachtel comes aboard.

Sauter worked with three different crew chiefs during the 2013 season while driving the No. 98 Toyota Tundra to three wins and a fourth place finish in the points. He started 2013 with Joe Shear Jr on top of his pit box but when he was suspended after the race at Kansas Jesse Saunders took over for four races before Shear returned for one race. Then Saunders was back for the Eldora race before Shear headed up his last race with Sauter at Pocono. Dennis Conner then took over for the final 11 races of the season.

Conner will be at Preseason Thunder testing overseeing ThorSports three trucks of Sauter, 2013 champion Matt Crafton, and Ross Chastian.

Wachtel has engineering experience at the Sprint Cup and Truck Series levels and joined ThorSport Racing at the end of the 2013 season.
